Choosing a Google Pixel Phone Case

You’re enjoying your new Google Pixel phone, and now you can have the fun of accessorizing! It’s time to choose a phone case—and you have a ton of options from which to select.

Factors to Consider in Phone Cases

A phone case is much more than an accessory, which can complicate the choice. There’s probably not a single phone-owner out there who hasn’t dropped their phone at least once, which makes it important for a phone case to be durable. It’s the only thing that stands between your phone and its destruction-by-pavement should you happen to drop it.

You’ll also want to consider extra functionalities, like the possibility of a slide-out case for ID and credit cards, or the ability to store a stylus if you use one. And of course there’s the all-important character of the case—what it looks like, and what that says about you. For most people, a cell phone is the most important possession they carry with them all the time, so choosing the case is almost as big a deal as choosing the phone itself.

Top Models of Phone Cases

With all those thoughts in mind, here are some of the top options to choose from when you’re looking to outfit your Google Pixel phone.

  • Google Cases. Google has released several proprietary cases of their own for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Google’s cases range from polycarbonate clear covers (showing off the design of the phone itself) to a range of brightly colored covers with the same durable construction. The Google cases are sleek and don’t add bulk to the phone, and of course provide access to every button and port and sensor.
  • Spigen Rugged Armor. Spigen makes super-protective cases, and the Rugged Armor case is just right when it comes to balancing protection (plenty of it) against bulk (not too much). With reinforced rubber corners and pretty glossy accents, Spigen nails this design.
  • Otterbox Commuter or Defender. Otterbox is famous for protective cases. The Commuter series comes in with less bulk than the Defender, but still a lot of protection. If you tend to drop your phone a lot, though, you’ll probably want to bump up and spring for the Defender, which is practically indestructible. You could practically drive a tank over the Defender and still use your phone afterward. These cases are near the top of the scale when it comes to price, but they are far less expensive than replacing your phone.
  • Incipio DualPro or Carnaby. The DualPro case is available in black, a champagne and grey duo, and a red and black dual-color. For a unique touch, you can consider the Carnaby series Esquire case, with an actual grey cotton cover, decorated with a touch of black ribbon at the bottom. This is possibly the classiest looking phone case you’ll lay eyes on, though it’s going to be a little less durable than some of the other available alternatives.
